Open the door of the future cities
In all ages, how a city looks reveals the truth about the society as well as the economy of the era, and also reflects people’s needs. Thinking about the future of cities where macro and micro factors intersect is the same as thinking about our future lifestyle. Even if the same technology is used as a function, a city might show a different view depending on the directions of people’s emotions when people are considered as Radical Atoms.
Hakuhodo Institute of Life and Living (HILL) has developed four scenarios of future city by analyzing people’s change in sense of value. The scenarios were made according to a matrix of people’s opinion on whether to have open or close “Living Space” and “Relationship”.
Living Space：Open?Close?
Open?(Share)
Relinquish housing functions such as the kitchen and bathroom, and share such in the city. This allows people to have flexible lifestyle and eliminates waste.
Close?(Own)
In order to cut down unnecessary travel between home and places in the city, gather every life-related necessities such as work and medical care in the house. Life is completely satisfied from every perspective in each household.
Relationship：Open?Close?
Open?(Dependence)

Close?(Independence)
People find great importance in one’s own freedom and live without caring for others. Everyone fully uses external services and technologies, and live independently without acquiring help from others.
